Final Recommendation

Lisa Claire Schultz
The Honorable

Lisa Claire Schultz

District Court Judge
3rd Judicial District --
Doña Ana County

Year: 2008

Recommendation: Retain

Election Results: Retained

Evaluation: Judge Schultz' scores were positive among the court staff and generally positive among the resource staff (e.g. social workers, probation officers, and law enforcement). The Commission determined that survey responses from attorneys were not sufficiently reliable to be utilized in this evaluation. Among court staff, the judge scored well on fairness, respecting all court employees, respecting and cooperating with other judges, having a dignified demeanor, and conducting herself in a manner free from impropriety. Among resource staff, she scored well on being attentive to the proceedings, ruling on motions or cases in a timely manner, and punctuality in commencing proceedings.

Experience & Education: Judge Schultz was elected District Court Judge in November 2006. She hears juvenile, civil and criminal cases, including all three of the Juvenile Drug Courts. Prior to her election, she was an attorney for 21 years. She has received numerous awards, including the Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women. She received her undergraduate degree from Johnston College, University of Redlands, M.T.S. degree from Harvard Divinity School, and her law degree from New York Law School.
