Evaluation: Overall, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer received generally positive ratings. Many of her scores among attorneys and court staff improved since her last evaluation in 2011. Attorneys rate her positively for being punctual in commencing proceedings, being attentive to proceedings, maintaining proper control over proceedings, and for ruling on motions or cases in a timely manner. Among court staff, Judge Sommer was rated positively for behaving in a manner that encourages respect for the courts and for ensuring her personal staff is professional, productive and knowledgeable. Experience & Education: Judge Sommer was appointed to the District Court in 2010. Prior to the appointment, she worked as a child support hearing officer, criminal and juvenile defense attorney, and an assistant attorney general for the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office. Judge Sommer received her undergraduate degree from James Madison University and her law degree from George Mason School of Law in 1983.
